BOB’S BITS
In many ways it is difficult to believe that summer is over, school has started and fall is
just around the corner. With the beginning of September comes the start of our regular
Season of church programming. Here are a couple events that kick-off the season:
Saturday, September 11 9:00am – 12:00n
Is our Fall Planning Retreat. Members of the Nurture Committee, Church Council and
Trustees along with any interested church member are urged to attend. We will be
looking at 5 specific areas which the Bishop and District Superintendents are asking
each East Ohio Conference church to give special attention to at their annual Charge
Conference. The areas are: Racial Hospitality, Passionate Worship, Faith Development
and Service and Extravagant Generosity. We are asked to set goals in each of these
areas for the coming year.
Sunday, September 12 – Rally Day!
This is a time for all of us to gather for worship as we mark the beginning of a new
church year. Following our worship service, we will gather in the newly-painted
fellowship hall for our Second Sunday Potluck Lunch. As usual, drinks & table service
will be provided and you may bring a main dish, salad and/or dessert to share. It will
be great to share this meal together! I encourage you to invite family and friends!
Tuesday, September 14 – Women’s Bible Study
At this time we are thrilled to announce there are 21 women signed up for this study!
The study book is “Bad Girls of the Bible” by Liz Curtis Higgs. Books will be provided.
Glenda Dailey is leading this study each Tuesday, 7:00pm, at the church.
Thursday, October 7 – Start of After-School Program
Our After-School Program will be on Thursdays this year – watch your bulletin for the
organizational meeting for all of you who want to help with this rewarding project!
Several years ago, as I was serving as the Senior Pastor of one of the large metro-
politan churches in Columbus, we were facing some difficult issues concerning
finances, staffing and the historic congregation’s willingness to make the needed
program changes to meet the spiritual and social-economic needs of a declining
neighborhood. The problems were great and the struggles hard and at every corner it
seemed as though Satan was defeating us. Then one day, there was a knock at my
office door and a church member gave me a small sign they had made: The sign reads:
Stop telling God how big your mountains are,
and start telling your mountains how big your GOD is!
