MOUNT VERNON — Girl Scouts of the Ohio State Fair announce Ohio State Fair results. Girl Scout Troop 214 of Mount Vernon won the overall Outstanding Group Project. The troop entered a scrapbook in the Girl Scout Traditions and Ways category. The book outlined the troop’s Bronze Award, which consisted of the sewing and filling of 192 Christmas stockings that were sent to military troops in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait and Africa.

Members of the troop are Lydia Ingalls, Kenzie Kent, Emma Layman, Maygan Newcomb, Mayre Newcomb, Cassie Rine, Misty Roskowski and Katarina Quigg. Girl Scout Troop 214 is part of the Girl Scouts of Ohio’s Heartland, and they are sponsored by the South Vernon United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon.

Mayre Newcomb won the Outstanding Junior Project Award in Girl Scout Program. Her project consisted of raising awareness about a bleeding disorder and raising money for the Central Ohio Chapter of the National Hemophilia Foundation. She is the daughter of Brian and Barbara Newcomb of Mount Vernon.

Maygan Newcomb earned two first-place ribbons with a project about karate and a travel journal. Her parents are Brian and Barbara Newcomb.

Ingalls of Howard earned a first-place ribbon on her winter photo. She is the daughter of Jim and Mindy Ingalls.

Roskowski earned a second- place ribbon on her heritage project, a second-place ribbon on her baked cookies, third place on a recipe book and an honorable mention on a pie baked from scratch. She is the daughter of Rosemary Young.

All of the individual winners are from Girl Scouts of Ohio’s Heartland and are sponsored by the South Vernon UMC.
